Electric ball valve introduction

Electric ball valve is composed of different structure ball valve and on-off or regulating electric actuator.Electric ball valve is an important actuated automatic valve in industrial automation control system.Electric ball valve is a valve that rotates around the axis of the stem according to this movement of the ball.The variation of the seat orifice is proportional to the ball stroke.Electric ball valve is mainly used to cut off or connect the medium in the pipeline, and can also be used for fluid regulation and control.
 

Electric ball valve is a high-performance automated quarter-turn fluid control device composed of a standard ball valve body and a dedicated electric actuator. Electric ball valve is a kind of pipeline pressure element for industrial automation process control. Electric ball valve feature

1. The thrust bearing reduces the friction moment of the electric ball valve stem, making the stem stable and flexible for long-term operation.

Electric ball valve Structure components

The electric ball valve adopts a modular integrated structure, mainly divided into two major parts: electric actuator and ball valve body assembly, together with sealing components, transmission structures, and intelligent control accessories. The overall structure is compact, rigid, and easy for installation and maintenance, with stable mechanical performance and strong environmental adaptability.

Electric Actuator (Core Driving Unit): The key component that distinguishes electric ball valves from other automated ball valves. It consists of a servo motor, reduction gear set, limit switch, torque protection device, control circuit board, and shell. According to functional types, it can be divided into on-off type and modulating type. The on-off actuator completes full opening or full closing actions; the modulating actuator receives 4–20 mA analog signals to realize stepless angle adjustment and precise flow control. Built-in over-torque and overheating protection devices effectively prevent motor burnout and mechanical damage caused by overload and jamming.

Valve Body Assembly: Available in one-piece, two-piece, and three-piece structures. One-piece bodies feature high rigidity and zero external leakage; two-piece bodies balance cost and performance for general industrial working conditions; three-piece bodies support online disassembly and maintenance without removing the valve from the pipeline. Common materials include cast iron, WCB carbon steel, and SS304/SS316 stainless steel, covering normal temperature, high temperature, conventional, and corrosive working environments.

Ball Core & Sealing System: Equipped with precision-machined spherical ball cores, including full-port and reduced-port designs. Full-port structure ensures straight-through flow, minimal pressure loss, and maximum flow rate; reduced-port structure improves overall structural strength and switching stability. The sealing system is divided into soft seal and hard seal: PTFE, RPTFE, and PEEK soft seals achieve Class VI bubble-tight zero leakage for clean media; Stellite alloy hard seals adapt to high-temperature, high-pressure, and abrasive media, with wear resistance and long service life.

Anti-Blowout Valve Stem & Transmission Structure: The integrally forged valve stem adopts an anti-blowout limiting structure to prevent stem ejection under full pipeline pressure. The gear transmission mechanism precisely converts motor rotation into 90-degree quarter-turn motion of the valve stem, ensuring synchronous, stable, and jitter-free rotation of the ball core. Multi-layer sealing packing is installed at the stem position to eliminate external leakage.

Intelligent Control Accessories: High-end electric ball valve is equipped with signal feedback modules, manual override handwheels, remote communication modules, and explosion-proof enclosures. The position feedback device feeds back real-time valve opening and closing status to the control system; the manual handwheel ensures emergency manual operation in case of power failure or electrical failure; Modbus and other communication protocols support intelligent remote monitoring and centralized system management.

 

Electric ball valve working principle

The working principle of the electric ball valve is based on electric drive and mechanical quarter-turn rotation. After the actuator is powered on, the servo motor outputs rotational power, which is decelerated and torque-increased by the internal gear reduction system, driving the valve stem and ball core to rotate 90 degrees to complete opening or closing actions. When the ball core through-hole is completely aligned with the pipeline, the valve is fully open for unobstructed fluid circulation; when the through-hole is perpendicular to the pipeline, the valve is fully closed to cut off fluid flow.
 

For on-off type electric ball valve, the system sends switch signals to control the motor forward and reverse rotation. The built-in mechanical and electrical limit switches automatically cut off power when reaching the fully open or fully closed position, realizing accurate positioning and stroke protection. For modulating type electric ball valve, the actuator receives 4–20 mA or 0–10 V analog control signals. The internal control chip compares the target signal with the actual valve position, automatically adjusts the rotation angle, and realizes continuous and precise adjustment of flow, pressure, and liquid level.
 

Equipped with a manual override mechanism, the valve can be switched to manual operation freely during power failure, equipment maintenance, or circuit failure, ensuring normal pipeline debugging and emergency operation. Meanwhile, the overload protection system automatically cuts off the power supply when the valve is stuck or overloaded, avoiding damage to the motor and valve body mechanical structure, greatly improving the overall operational safety and stability.
 

Electric ball valve has a rotation action of 90 degrees. .1 Classification by Control Function

On-Off Type Electric Ball Valve: Also known as switch-type electric ball valve. It only realizes full opening and full closing actions, suitable for pipeline on-off isolation, medium cut-off, and simple switching working conditions, with fast response and high cost performance.

Modulating Type Electric Ball Valve: Equipped with intelligent positioning modules, supporting analog signal adjustment. It can precisely control flow and pressure, suitable for process parameter adjustment and automatic constant control systems in fine chemical, HVAC, and water treatment industries.

Two-Way Electric Ball Valve: The most widely used basic type, applied for single-channel medium cut-off and flow control.
